Senior research fellow of the HIERD Anna IMRE represented our Institute at the 3rd meeting of the ET2020 working group on schools policy on the 24th and 25th June 2014, in Brussels and Antwerp.

The first day of the meeting took place in Antwerp, and consisted of presenting initiatives (best practices) of the city to prevent early school leaving, a highlighted focus of which is parent – school relations. The presentations were discussed the next day in Brussels, in three subgroups: 1. school organisation and school culture, 2. stakeholders and 3. students. This was followed by the presentation of information collected from external studies and of a draft questionnaire, the study ‘Preventing Early School Leaving in Europe – Lessons Learned from second Chance Education’, and Erasmus+. During the afternoon, further activities of the workgroup were discussed, where Ms. Imre proposed to provide a case study about prevention of early school leaving in Hungary for the next meeting (this would include a presentation of a school in Hejőkeresztúr with a very special education program and the so called Dobbantó Program, an initiative to support vocational schools to integrate special needs students who left schools before school leaving age to a preparatory grade with individual study plans and special support (career orientation, development and mental wellbeing) for each student.
