Our colleague Viola BOZSIK participated at the meeting of the Consumer Education working group of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Health and Consumers on the 6th of February 2014.
The main discussion topic of the meeting was to comment about Consumer Classroom, the Union’s website for consumer education, which is a database of a wide range of materials for consumer education. It contains a collection of links; teachers can upload consumer education materials and be part of a network of consumer educators throughout Europe. A call for applications for the annual consumer education competition gets announced on the website every year as well. Participants of the meeting could learn about best practices in Austria, and the work of the Nordic-Estonian Consumer Education group. A conclusion of the meeting was the acknowledgement of the importance of improving the quality of translation of the website (now available in all EU languages). New materials (which will be uploaded during 2014) will deal with topics of internet safety and media literacy.
